この語源辞書は、私が現在作成中の「５００の語源から覚える１００００語」のうちの重要な語源約５３個を公開するものです。この５３の語源から派生する英単語は2,700個程度になるので、５００の語源から１０，０００語が導き出せることは、信じてもらえると思います。

以下に語源の効用５つを示します。
１）　これを見れば、なぜ語源が重要なのか十分に納得できる。

　上の表を説明します。表には主にラテン語の基本動詞をあげました。
ひとつの動詞につき、４つの活用形（時制）を並べました。４つの時制とは、順に直説法・現在・一人称・単数／不定法現在／完了形／完了分詞（過去分詞）です。
　
　
　「英語のスペルは、似たような意味なのにちょっとづつ違うのはなぜだろう。」と思ったことはありませんか。その理由は、元になったラテン語の（時制による）変化形が原因です。

この約５３の語源（ラテン語）を学習するだけで、約２７００の英単語を漢字を
「へん・つくり・かんむり」の感覚でイメージするのと同じようにイメージできるようになります。英単語をネイティブが感じるそのままのイメージで使いこなせるようになります。
